Do I need to be a good player to be fitted?
No, and the assumption gets things backwards. A low handicap player can compensate for equipment that is slightly wrong. A newer player usually cannot, so badly matched clubs cost them more strokes and more enjoyment. The only thing that makes a fitting difficult is a swing so new that it changes materially week to week, and even then a length and lie check is worth doing.
What should I bring to the appointment?
The clubs you currently play, the shoes you wear on the course, and a glove if you use one. If you have any record of your typical scores or a recent lesson note, bring that too. Nothing else is needed, and there is no dress code in a workshop.
How long does a session take?
Forty-five minutes for a putter, sixty for a single wood or wedge category, seventy-five for a driver, and ninety for an iron set. A full bag runs about three hours and we split it across two visits, because attention fades and tired swings produce misleading numbers.
Do I have to buy clubs at the end?
No. Roughly one visit in six ends with no purchase. You keep the measurements and the written spec either way, and you are free to take that spec somewhere else. We would rather you did that than bought something you were talked into.
Is the fitting fee refunded if I buy?
It is credited in full toward any club we build for you within ninety days of the session, or one hundred and twenty days for a full bag booking. It is not refunded as cash, and we say so up front rather than in small print.
How long does the build take?
Two to four working days for most jobs once components are in hand. Epoxy cure time is the limiting factor and we do not rush it. Special-order components add whatever the supplier adds, usually under a week, and we will tell you the realistic date rather than the optimistic one.
Can you work on clubs I did not buy here?
Yes, that is a large part of the business. Reshafts, regrips, length changes, loft and lie work, and full bag audits are all done on whatever you own. We do not charge more for equipment bought elsewhere.
What is a build card and why does it matter?
It is a single sheet listing what your club was built to and what it measured afterward: raw shaft length, tip and butt trim, playing length, butt frequency, swingweight, loft, lie, and grip build-up. It matters because in four years, when something needs replacing, that sheet lets anyone reproduce the club exactly instead of approximating it.
My clubs are only two years old. Is a fitting a waste?
Age is not the useful question. We measure clubs of every vintage that are out of step with themselves, and plenty of two-year-old sets have drifted a degree flat from mat practice. Start with a bag audit for sixty dollars and find out whether anything is actually wrong before booking a full session.
Do you fit left-handed players?
Yes. Both bays are set up for either hand and roughly a fifth of our component rack is left-hand stock. Head availability is thinner on the manufacturer side for some models, which we will flag early rather than discovering at order time.
Can you fit juniors?
Yes, at half the session rate, and we re-check length free each spring while a player is still growing. Cut-down adult clubs are usually far too heavy and too stiff for a young player, and correcting that is one of the most obvious improvements available in this whole trade.
What if the club does not feel right after a few rounds?
Come back. One round of spec adjustment inside thirty days is included, whether that means length, swingweight, or grip build-up. If the shaft itself turns out to be the wrong call, we will talk through options honestly rather than pretending the data said something it did not.
Do you use a launch monitor or hitting outdoors?
Indoor bays with a doppler radar unit, plus face tape and camera angles. Indoors gives repeatable conditions, which matters more for comparing components than absolute distance does. We also cross-check carry against your own reported yardages so nothing drifts into fantasy.
Is there parking?
Yes, a small lot behind Building C off the side street, plus street parking on Manchester. Entrance is the grey door on the east side of the building, not the main frontage.
Can I watch my clubs being built?
You can. Say so when you book and we will schedule the assembly at a time you can attend. Most people who watch a shaft being profiled, cut, and re-measured leave with a much clearer sense of what they paid for.
